§ 2.44.040. Same—Duties

  • The chief is the commanding officer of the department. His duties shall include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

    A. Determining the organization of the department and providing for its staffing;

    B. Establishing and enforcing rules and regulations for the conduct of department members;

    C. Directing the police and emergency rescue work of the city;

    D. Being responsible for the maintenance and care of all property used or in the custody of the department;

    E. Maintaining and staffing the city jail or other holding facilities and being responsible for the prisoners;

    F. Preparing and maintaining records of all arrests, fines; search and rescue operations and responses to emergencies, and other information about the work and status of the department and making periodic written reports to the city council;

    G. Providing arrangements and equipment for reporting emergency situations and for notifying all members of the department to assure prompt response to such incidents;

    H. Recommending to the city council needed emergency medical and search and rescue equipment;

    I. Preparing and submitting, upon request, a tentative department budget for the department to the city council;

    J. Communicating directly with and coordinating, where possible, department activities, with those of other regulatory and enforcement agencies about matters related to department business;

    K. Performing such other duties as may be required by the city council.
